A collaborator who posed as a monk and blessed Russian tanks during the battles near Kyiv was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The court sentenced to 10 years in prison  a collaborator  who called himself a "monk" and established contacts with Russian soldiers, provided them with housing and food, and blessed Russian tanks  during the battles for Kyiv. UNN reports this with reference to the SBU.

Details

Reportedly, during the occupation of the village of Andriivka in the Bucha district, he put on a monk's robe and came to the positions of Russian troops. There he offered the Nazis his help in the war against Ukraine. At first, he "quartered" a unit of the Russian occupation group in his own house. And then he provided the invaders with food. He also pointed out to the occupiers the houses that could be robbed by the enemies.

In addition, the collaborator blessed columns of Russian armored vehicles moving toward the front line. At the same time, in fact, the defendant had nothing to do with the religious environment

- the SBU said in a statement.

As noted, the perpetrator had "privileges" to move freely around the community and visit the occupiers' headquarters. After the area was liberated, he remained in the village and hoped to "sit out" in his own home.

Law enforcement officers detained the man in April 2022.

The court found him guilty under Art. 4, 6 Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaboration). Taking into account his cooperation with the investigation, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
