Poland agrees to temporarily ban the transit of certain agricultural products from Ukraine starting April 1 and to provide subsidies to farmers following protests.

The Polish Ministry of Agriculture has signed an agreement with protesting farmers  on subsidies per ton of grain and the temporary closure of the border with Ukraine for the transit of certain agricultural products from April 1 this year. This is reported by "Polish Radio", which has familiarized itself with the document, UNN reports.

The agreement was reportedly signed by representatives of the protesting farmers, as well as Polish Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Sekerski  and the ministry's state secretary Michal Kolodziejczak.

The agreement maintains the current embargo on agricultural products from Ukraine, which has been in place since mid-September last year. The ban applies, in particular, to wheat, corn, wheat flour, rapeseed and sunflower.

In addition, the Minister of Agriculture should address the Council of Ministers with a request to suspend the transit of these products through Polish territory from April 1 this year.

In the signed document, both sides also consider it necessary to develop detailed rules for trade in agri-food products between Poland and Ukraine, but at the same time emphasize that the difficult situation in agriculture is the result of Russia's aggression against Kyiv.

As Politico reported, France has joined Poland in calling for further restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products, threatening to derail talks to extend Kyiv's free trade with the EU for another year.
