Panic Initiative: Ukraine's Foreign Ministry reacts sharply to Russia's bill to recognize the transfer of Crimea as "illegal"

Russia has introduced a bill to invalidate the 1954 transfer of Crimea to Ukraine in an attempt to legitimize its illegal occupation, but Ukraine has condemned it as a desperate propaganda move that will not change the internationally recognized reality that Crimea is Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to Russian "legislative initiatives" to recognize the transfer of Crimea as "illegal" and called them panic, UNN reports.

The diplomatic mission noted that the submission to the Russian State Duma of a bill recognizing as "illegal" the decision of the Soviet authorities in 1954 to transfer Crimea to Ukraine is a worthless attempt by the Russian dictatorship to legitimize its own gross violations of international law.

Meanwhile, the aggressor has grossly violated and continues to violate its own obligations, as it once legally, documentedly and unequivocally recognized the borders of modern Ukraine at both bilateral and multilateral levels, the Foreign Ministry added.

The Russian government, caught in a lie hundreds of times and compromised, can continue its propaganda as long as it wants, including under the guise of lawmaking, but this will not change the reality recognized by the international community: Crimea is Ukraine. The State Duma bill only confirms once again that this fact, as well as the inevitability of de-occupation, is clearly understood in Moscow, which is why such panic initiatives are being taken

- the diplomatic mission said in a statement.
