Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the number of missing persons has increased 4 times and today more than 50 thousand people are considered missing. This was announced on his page by Deputy Head of the National Police Andriy Nebitov, UNN reports.

"The war has changed the scale of search operations. Before the war, 12,292 people were considered missing for all the years of independence. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the number of missing persons has increased 4 times. Today, 50,150 people remain unaccounted for," said Nebytov.

He noted that the rapid search for missing persons and persons who disappeared under special circumstances, identification of the dead under martial law were the main topics discussed at an interagency scientific and practical roundtable at the National Academy of Internal Affairs.

"Collecting information, verifying data, implementing search activities are complicated due to the unpredictable situation on the frontline, massive attacks on peaceful cities, migration of people and temporary occupation of territories," added Nebytov.

He also said that the workload of the criminal investigation has increased, but the operatives are working at their best and continue to fight for every human life.

In addition, Nebytov noted that in 2022 the number of missing persons amounted to 31293, and in 2023 - 46769.
