After the law came into force, which allows prisoners to be drafted to serve in the army, at least 3,611 convicts used it. Such data is cited by NGL.media, UNN.
An analysis of the court register shows that over the past two months, 3,611 convicts have already taken advantage of this opportunity. This is more than 13% of the total number of prisoners in Ukrainian colonies
It is noted that in general, the government expects to mobilize at least 4 thousand convicts. This is actually a full-fledged separate brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
More than half of the dismissals occurred in the last two weeks of May, when the law had just come into force.
"If we analyze the nature of the crimes committed by former prisoners, the vast majority of them were convicted of theft, robbery, assault or serious bodily harm, including those that caused the victim's death. Almost all of them will serve exclusively in rifle positions. Judging by the court rulings, only a few of those released will serve as medics, cooks or drivers," the publication notes.
The analysis reportedly shows that 40% of prisoners are repeat offenders.
Addendum
More than 4000 people are expected to take part in the first round of such mobilization. Currently, prisoner volunteers serve in units composed entirely of ex-prisoners and led by experienced military officers.
