The current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has officially announced her entry into the presidential race. She will run for the post of head of state from her party Action and Solidarity (PAS). This was reported by Newsmaker, UNN.

Details

In 2024, we will make the most important decision for the country since independence. We will determine our foreign policy in a referendum. I am confident that our people will choose peace and freedom. In 2024, we will also elect a president. My program is clear: better living conditions and mutual understanding

- Sandu said.

Now Maia Sandu's initiative group has to be registered by the Central Election Commission. After that, it will need to collect at least 15,000 and at most 25,000 signatures in at least half of the administrative units.

Only then will the CEC be able to officially register Sandu as a candidate.

Addendum

On  August 1, Moldova began the pre-election period before the presidential election and the referendum on European integration to be held on October 20.

The authorities combined the presidential vote with a referendum to mobilize voters.

Recall

For the first time, candidates for the presidency of Moldova will be tested for knowledge of the state language. The CEC has approved a new regulation requiring candidates to demonstrate proficiency in their native language.
