Ukrainian parliament passes law allowing soldiers to store reproductive cells in cryobanks free of charge to preserve their chance of parenthood after being wounded

The Verkhovna Rada today adopted in the second reading a bill that allows Ukrainian military personnel to store their reproductive cells in cryobanks for free, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said on Wednesday, UNN reports.

According to Zhelezniak, the parliament supported in general the bill of MP Oksana Dmitrieva (No. 8011) on the creation of state guarantees to preserve the possibility of biological fatherhood/motherhood for defenders of Ukraine, in case they are injured and their reproductive functions are affected.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 8011 on amendments to certain laws of Ukraine to ensure the rights of war veterans to biological post-traumatic fatherhood/motherhood. [As previously reported by UNN, with the outbreak of full-scale war, the problem of further use of reproductive cells and embryos stored in case of death of one of the spouses arose .
