Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets appealed to his Polish counterpart Marcin Wieczek regarding the violation of the rights and freedoms of Ukrainians stuck on the Ukrainian-Polish border due to the strike of Polish carriers. The ombudsman stated this in his Telegram channel, UNN reports .
Details
The Ombudsman said that he had received a number of appeals from representatives of business entities engaged in international transportation of goods.
According to the complainants, the places where drivers stay are not adapted to ensure their livelihood. There is no access to drinking water and food, which leads to a violation of the right to life guaranteed by Article 27 of the Constitution of Ukraine. Moreover, there are already two deaths of Ukrainian drivers who were standing in line
In addition, it is clear from the appeals that many drivers who are in front of international checkpoints have deteriorated health conditions due to the inability to access medical care. This violates the right to health care guaranteed by Article 49 of the Constitution of Ukraine.
In addition, the terms of legal stay of drivers who transport goods by road in Poland are expiring. And this can lead to inevitable consequences, since violation of the maximum period of stay abroad entails liability under Ukrainian law, which can lead to a violation of the right to work under Article 43 of the Constitution of Ukraine
The Ombudsman said that in order to resolve this situation, he had addressed the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal
He also sent a letter to the Ombudsman of the Republic of Poland, Professor Marcin Wieczek, asking him to ensure the observance of the rights and freedoms of drivers engaged in the transportation of goods by road, including those necessary to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities
Addendum
The Ombudsperson emphasized that Ukraine and the Republic of Poland have a long positive history of bilateral relations, complemented by fruitful cooperation within international organizations and national institutions. In particular, Poland and its people have long been providing assistance and support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
In addition, Poland has become a reliable and safe haven for Ukrainians who, since the beginning of the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, have been forced to leave the territory of our country in order to save their lives and health.
As a reminder,
on November 27, Polish protesters begin a round-the-clock blockade of the Medyka-Shegyni checkpoint on the border of Poland and Ukraine, which was partially blocked earlier.
