LPR leader to be tried for holding pseudo-elections in occupied territories of Luhansk region

Prosecutors have sent to court an indictment against the "head of the LPR" Leonid Pasichnyk. He is charged with holding illegal elections in the temporarily occupied territories. This was reported by the Luhansk Regional Prosecutor's Office, UNN reports .

The investigation established that from September 01 to September 10, 2023, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation and the "LPR", illegal "elections of deputies of the people's council and deputies of the representative bodies of municipalities of the LPR of the first convocation" took place in the occupied territories of Luhansk region.

On September 23 last year, the defendant was re-elected as the "head of the lPR" on the proposal of the president of Russia and swore allegiance to the constitution of the Russian Federation and the pseudo-republic. He took up the position of "leader".

The defendant continues to conduct active anti-Ukrainian activities in the territory of the pseudo-republic. He systematically participates in the Kremlin's propaganda media campaigns.

The defendant, as the "head of the luhansk People's Republic", together with representatives of the Russian Federation, had previously created conditions for the annexation of luhansk region by holding a fictitious "referendum" and signing an agreement on the region's "accession" to Russia,

The suspect is charged with participation in the organization and holding of illegal elections in the temporarily occupied territory, public calls for their holding and voluntary election to an illegal authority (Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The agency added that earlier another case against the defendant was brought to court for a number of crimes against the foundations of national security of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 110, Part 2 of Article 28, Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
