Details
The Minister of Internal Affairs Agne Bilotaite discussed mass evacuation of the population in the event of a military scenario with representatives of the Ministries of Defense and Transport, the National Crisis Management Center and other interested institutions. In preparation for the evacuation of residents, the responsibilities and tasks of various agencies have been agreed upon, and local governments are now expected to provide specific data on their capabilities and needs
It is noted that in early July, the Ministry of Internal Affairs sent a written request for evacuation to the self-governments and asked them to assess the possibilities and necessity of its implementation within a month and a half - to submit the number of residents to be evacuated by category, evacuation routes, transport and existing contracts for its use, the number of people required for evacuation, and the lack of funding.
The data collected now should be included in the evacuation plan. In developing it, Lithuania is following the example of the Nordic countries, which have evacuation plans for both wartime and peacetime. After the evacuation plan is finalized, a new version of the description of the procedure for organizing the evacuation of residents will be approved by a government resolution. The plan will also be tested during civil defense exercises at the state level
