Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko believes that the coming months will be difficult for Zelenskiy because of the war. He suggests that the president may need a referendum on territorial concessions.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko believes that the coming months will be very difficult for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and that he is at risk  of committing political suicide. Klitschko also believes that in case of territorial concessions in favor of Russia, the President will have to call a referendum to find out public opinion on this. This was stated by the mayor of the capital in an interview with Corriere della Sera, reports UNN.

The next few months will be very difficult for Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Should he continue the war with new deaths and destruction, or consider a territorial compromise with Putin? And in this case, what pressure will come from America if Trump wins? And how do we explain to the country that we need to give up pieces of our territory that cost the lives of thousands of our heroes? Whatever step he takes, our president risks committing political suicide

- Klitschko said.

He said that Ukraine should win the war, but according to him  the situation is becoming more and more difficult.

It depends on aid coming from allies, it would be a nightmare if we had to fight for another two years. Zelensky will probably have to resort to a referendum, I don't think he can reach such painful and important agreements on his own without popular legitimization. A way out for him could be to create a national unity government, similar to what happened in Israel after the October 7 Hamas attack. However, I am not sure that he is ready to give up the centralized power in his hands that martial law has guaranteed him since the first day of the Russian invasion

- Klitschko said.

When asked if he would be in favor of elections, Klitschko said: "Definitely not. No one needs them now, not even the president's critical people. The internal political struggle can only begin when the war with Russia is over. Today's elections would only play into Putin's hands, they would divide Ukraine and weaken us in the face of an enemy who is trying to destroy us in every way.

When asked to elaborate on the decision, Klitschko said: "A coalition of national unity that helps to govern in a collegial manner and shares important decisions, such as the very delicate management of the new mobilization law.

In June, on the sidelines of the Peace Summit, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, said that there would be no compromise with Ukraine's independence and no concessions to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country during the upcoming peace talks.
