Infectious disease experts explain what is happening in Kharkiv region with the FLiRT coronavirus strain

So far, the circulation of FLiRT in the Kharkiv region has not been confirmed by laboratory tests. This was announced today by Lyubov Makhota, director of the regional center for disease control and prevention, UNN reports.

The Official Media Center of HRMA spoke about the epidemic situation in the Kharkiv region. Currently, the circulation of FLiRT in the Kharkiv region has not been confirmed by laboratory, but the increase in the incidence of Covid-19 is observed.  

Both Ukraine and Kharkiv region have seen an increase in the incidence of Covid-19 since July this year - 6 times in the country and 2.4 times in the region. In June, 18 cases of coronavirus were registered in the Kharkiv region. It should be noted that the circulation of the FLiRT coronavirus sub-variant in the region has not been confirmed yet

As of August 21, there are 67 patients in the Kharkiv Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital. It is noted that a third of them are children.

As for the adult patients, five are in the intensive care unit. Three are on artificial lung ventilation with critically severe infection.

Lyubov Makhota reminded that vaccination is the most effective means of preventing Covid-19 and influenza.

In Ukraine, coronavirus vaccination is carried out with Comirnaty Omicron mRNA vaccines, adapted to the Omicron strain and Comirnaty-children's, for vaccination of children aged 5 to 12 years.

In Kyiv, the number of severe coronavirus patients is growing : the number of patients among children is increasing.

The number of patients with COVID-19 is growing in Sumy region: the FLiRT strain was recorded in the region.

UNN also reported that France will donate 100 thousand vaccines to countries affected by the monkeypox outbreak.
