In the Netherlands, due to abnormal heat, one of the largest electronic music festivals, Defqon.1, which was taking place in the city of Biddinghuizen, has been completely canceled. This decision was made by the organizers together with local authorities after the announcement of the highest level of weather danger, reports Bild, as conveyed by UNN.
Details
According to the publication, meteorological services declared a red level of danger due to intense heat. In some areas of the country, the air temperature could reach almost 40 degrees.
Initially, the organizers tried to hold the festival with restrictions. In particular, it was decided not to allow visitors with day tickets onto the grounds to reduce the number of people. However, later the event had to be completely canceled.
As Bild notes, for many guests this came as a surprise. According to eyewitnesses, the music suddenly stopped, and a significant portion of visitors learned about the final cancellation of the festival from social media.
According to NL Times, this year about 58 thousand people were expected at the festival campsite, and approximately another 15 thousand visitors were supposed to arrive each day with day tickets.
Currently, the organizers have called on all participants to leave the festival grounds, and those who have not yet set off for the venue have been asked to refrain from traveling, as access to the site is closed. The cost of purchased tickets has been promised to be refunded, but the refund procedure is still being clarified.
