In Rivne, a 10-year-old boy died as a result of a fire in an apartment of a multi-story building. The tragedy occurred on the morning of June 20 on Kulika and Hudacheka Street. In connection with the incident, law enforcement officers opened two criminal proceedings, UNN reports, citing the police of the Rivne region.

According to preliminary data, a 60-year-old man, his 51-year-old wife, their 14-year-old son with a disability, and a two-year-old grandson were in the apartment on the seventh floor. The family smelled smoke coming from the bedroom. The parents began evacuating the children, but did not have time to return for their 10-year-old son, who was sleeping in the room, due to the rapid spread of the fire.
Rescuers extinguished the fire, but the apartment burned down completely. Also, three children and a woman from a neighboring apartment were taken to the hospital with poisoning from combustion products. Their lives are not in danger.
Investigators have launched a pre-trial investigation under articles on violation of fire or man-made safety requirements that caused a person's death, as well as on malicious failure to fulfill child care duties.
The police reported that the parents are raising eight children, five of whom are already adults. It was also established that the father had previously been repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility, in particular for improper fulfillment of parental duties. The causes of the fire and all the circumstances of the tragedy are currently being established.
