French police detained about 20 participants of a protest against political executions in Iran. The ban on the rally was imposed after a phone call between the foreign ministers of France and Iran.

French police detained about 20 participants of a protest against political executions in Iran, which took place in Paris despite an official ban by the authorities. Demonstrators gathered at Place Vauban in the center of the French capital, reports UNN citing Bloomberg.

According to Shahin Gobadi, a representative of the Iranian opposition organization NCRI, hundreds of people attended the action. At the same time, police dispersed the participants after a court upheld the decision to ban the rally.

The French authorities explained the ban by the risk of possible clashes between supporters of different political views. The protest organizers called such justification unfounded and tried to challenge the decision in court.

The ban on the rally was imposed after contacts between Paris and Tehran

The decision to ban the action was made on Thursday, a few hours after a telephone conversation between French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

However, the French Foreign Ministry rejected the assumption that the ban was related to these negotiations. The National Council of Resistance of Iran, which is the political wing of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran, has been holding large-scale actions in France for many years with the participation of opposition figures and international politicians.
