It is noted that the so-called safety package ensures that carrying knives at Christmas markets is now prohibited. This will bring more safety to all visitors.
The Bundestag and the Bundesrat decided to tighten gun laws, partly in response to the terrorist attack in Solingen. The knife ban came into effect on October 31 and for the first time applies to the Christmas market season, which is now starting. Visitors are prohibited from carrying any knives, regardless of whether they are weapons within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
Exceptions apply to certain groups, such as tradesmen, emergency workers and firefighters, as well as participants in fairs. The transportation of knives is also allowed, but they must be “inaccessible”, for example, in a package.
