An outbreak of acute hepatitis A has been reported in Dubno district of Rivne region, with at least 7 cases, including a child, undergoing treatment, and an epidemiological investigation is underway to prevent further spread of the disease.

An outbreak of acute hepatitis A has been recorded in the Dubno district of Rivne region. At least seven patients, including a child, have already been reported. This is reported by UNN with reference to Rivne Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health.

As noted, 7 people are currently registered, including children. All patients are being treated in medical institutions.

An epidemiological investigation is currently underway and measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the disease.

Hepatitis A is a viral infection that affects the liver. The virus is transmitted through contaminated food or water, which may contain feces from infected people, as well as through poor personal hygiene.

Clinical symptoms include jaundice, headache, weakness, diarrhea, nausea, and yellowing of the whites of the eyes and skin.  The course of the disease is mild to moderate.

For the prevention of hepatitis A, it is necessary:

  • wash your hands thoroughly after being in public places, before eating, and after each use of the toilet;
  • use only bottled or boiled water (boil for at least 10 minutes);
  • wash vegetables, fruits, herbs and berries thoroughly before consumption;
  • avoid buying food at spontaneous markets, heat treat dairy products.
