A Russian hacker group has attacked Kyivstar, destroying 40% of the company's infrastructure, affecting both mobile and fixed networks, as reported by the company's president, Alexander Komarov.

"Something similar happened to our infrastructure. On December 12, at 5 in the morning, a massive attack began, and security protocols were triggered," Makarov said. Makarov said.

According to him, during the 1.5 hours when control over the network was lost, the hackers "did quite a lot of bad things."

 They had two goals. The first goal was to destroy the infrastructure as much as possible and sow chaos. The destruction of the infrastructure reached 40%. The virtual layer of the network was very much destroyed

- Komarov noted.

The president of the company said that the radio network in fields covers tens of thousands of objects, mobile network - 15 thousand objects, fixed network - 80 thousand objects throughout Ukraine. Then comes the transit network, and then a virtual IT network that manages both both services and the corporation.

"The biggest was on the virtual layer of the network. Many servers were destroyed, a lot of data was a lot of data was erased. And all this was being restored," Komarov said.

He noted that Kyivstar will invest even more in cyber defense.

Kyivstar stated, that due to a technical failure in the network, there were problems with access to mobile communications and the Internet. Later, Kyivstar explained that the large-scale failure by a powerful hacker attack.

On December 22, Kyivstar announced that it had started a compensation procedure, to subscribers who suffered from a hacker attack on the mobile operator last week.
