Ukraine's government has streamlined the installation of mini-CHPs to maintain power supply to vital services during emergencies, with plans to have 69 installations by the end of 2023.

At its meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers simplified the procedure for placing cogeneration gas piston units (mini-CHP) in case of emergency power outages. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, UNN reports

We are strengthening the Ukrainian energy sector. Today, the Government has simplified the procedure for the placement of cogeneration gas piston units necessary to ensure uninterrupted power supply to schools, hospitals and critical infrastructure facilities

 Shmyhal said.

It is noted that now they can be installed without going through a number of permitting procedures.

According to the Prime Minister, these mini-CHPs will create a power reserve in case of an emergency power outage and at the same time decentralize generation.

According to Shmyhal, thanks to cooperation with USAID, Ukraine should receive 69 small and medium-sized plants by the end of 2023.

"Already this winter we will have a positive result from their operation," the Prime Minister said.

Addendum

Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said in a telethon earlier that Ukraine is ready to get through the winter without blackouts, unless there is massive shelling and natural disasters.
