Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has arrived at the problematic section of the blue line of the subway. There he talked with the head of the Kyiv subway Viktor Braginsky about the causes of the tunnel flooding and the timing of the repair work, UNN reports.
At Vitali Klitschko's request to provide conclusions as to why the tunnel was flooded, Victor Braginsky replied: "Now we can only preliminarily assume why this happened. There are several reasons. The first reason is that the general contractor did not perform its work properly, i.e. it did not meet the requirements stipulated by the project, namely waterproofing and chemical reinforcement of the tunnel. Secondly, the tunnel is located in the floodplain of the Lybid River and there is water behind the tunnel lining. That is, maybe it was the Lybid that gave its tributary. And the third is our floodgates - difficult geological conditions."
Details
Today, according to the head of the subway, after the morning rush hour, new cracks appeared into which water seeps. This already poses a real threat to the safety of passenger transportation.
Currently, trains are running from the Heroiv Dnipra station to the Lybidska station. Viktor Braginsky also said that ground traffic has been organized, which completely duplicates the work of the subway. An additional 77 buses, 20 trolleybuses, and three additional routes will be used.
At the same time, a well will be drilled in the subway to conduct geological research. The first report of the work will be published in two weeks after the results are received. After that, a pit will be dug over the tunnel to see from the outside whether the waterproofing and chemical fixing has been done. "This will happen in two to three months, not earlier. Because the pit needs to be about 20 meters long and more than 10 meters wide," Braginsky summarized.
As UNN reported
6 stations on the blue line of the Kyiv metro will be closed for six months as the tunnel needs urgent repair.
