Bert, the central character in the comedy action film about Australian crocodile hunter Mick Dundee ( Paul Hogan ) and journalist Sue Charlton ( Linda Kozlowski ), was caught in the Reynolds River in the 1980s.

He was 5.1 meters long and weighed 700 kilograms. It is believed that Bert helped to shape Australia's image as a country of rugged natural beauty and impressive wildlife, thanks to his impressive appearance.

"Bert was truly one of a kind. He wasn't just a crocodile - he was the embodiment of powerful nature, a reminder of the power and majesty of these incredible creatures," the Great Reptile Zoo in Australia's Northern Territory said on social media.

"In 2008, Bert came to Crocosaurus Cove, where he became a fierce and engaging ambassador for crocodile education. Known for his independent spirit, Bert was a confident bachelor - an attitude he clearly expressed in his earlier years at the crocodile farm.

In 2015, Bert made headlines after two drunken teenagers broke into his enclosure to mock the animal.

The teenagers, described by police as "slightly intoxicated," made their way to the Crocodile Bay and began teasing the monstrous crocodile.

"Around 4:00 a.m., we got a call from a security guard... he, bless his cotton socks, gave chase and the two suspects set up camp," said Superintendent Del Jones, according to Nine News.

Before they were scared off by a guard, the couple threw objects into the crocodile's enclosure, including a "wet floor" sign and a pink buoy.

Fans and visitors shared their memories of Bert on social media, describing the excitement they felt when they were able to get close to the huge reptile.
