In the east of Latvia , construction of the first line of defense borders, which will become part of the Baltic Defense Line, has begun. This was reported by UNN with reference to Latvijas Sabiedriskie Mediji.

Details

It is noted that the first anti-tank ditch was dug near the Terekhova border checkpoint, a few hundred meters from the border.

Depending on the terrain and the situation at each location, the anti-tank ditches will have different dimensions. They will be approximately two meters high and three meters wide.

The publication emphasizes that these ditches are only a small part of the plan to strengthen the eastern border and the planned line of defense in the Baltic.

After the ditches are completed, the Latvian military plans to install dragon teeth, anti-tank hedgehogs, concrete blocks and barriers filled with sand.

Thus, for the time being Latvia will focus on the construction of engineering structures without the installation of minefields, which are planned to be deployed only in the event of an immediate threat of war.

Addendum

The plan to strengthen the eastern border and counteract the mobility of enemy troops is part of the Baltic Defense Line initiative, which covers the entire length of the border with russia and Belarus.

The publication also noted that construction is taking place on private land plots with the consent of their owners. It is planned to involve not only military engineers but also civilian contractors.

Recall

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have agreed to create a joint Baltic defense zone on their eastern borders with russia and Belarus to deter and protect against military threats.
