Denmark closed the Great Belt Strait because of a jammed missile launcher on a warship. There was a risk that it could have fired, so the authorities closed the airspace and shipping in the area until the evening. This writes DW, citing a statement of the Danish Armed Forces, reports UNN.

Details

The country's Defense Ministry specified that the airspace and shipping in the Great Belt Strait is closed due to the activated and then failed missile launcher on a frigate moored in the port of Korsør.

The problem occurred during mandatory testing, when the rocket launcher is activated and cannot be deactivated. Until the launcher is deactivated, there is a risk that the missile could fire and fly several kilometers away.

- The military said in a statement.

The warning covered an area about four kilometers (2.5 miles) south of the Great Belt Bridge, which crosses the strait. However, according to the operator, the bridge remained open to traffic.

In the evening the navigation in the Great Belt Strait, as well as the airspace above it were reopened. This was reported by the Danish authorities.
