On April 4, 1949, representatives of 12 countries signed the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington, D.C., creating the NATO military and political alliance to counter potential threats from the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

Today, April 4, marks the 75th anniversary of the creation of the NATO military-political alliance, UNN reports.

The creation of the North Atlantic Alliance was precipitated by a meeting on March 4, 1948, in Brussels between representatives of Belgium, Great Britain, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and France, where they discussed the idea of Western countries signing a treaty on mutual military assistance against the backdrop of the Cold War and potential threats from the soviet union.

On April 4, 1949, representatives of Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States and the United States signed the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington, D.C., which entered into force on August 24 of that year.

Currently, 32 countries are members NATO. Sweden was the latest to join the North Atlantic Alliance on March 7 this year.

Ukraine expected to receive a NATO Membership Action Plan in 2008. However, as it turned out later, this idea of granting Ukraine the MAP was not supported by Germany and France at that time.

In February 2019, amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine came into force, according to which the Preamble enshrined Ukraine's course toward Euro-Atlantic integration, i.e., joining NATO.

On September 30, 2022, Ukraine applied to join the North Atlantic Alliance on an accelerated basis.

Vegetable lovers can join the celebration of World Carrot Day today.

The cultivation of this vegetable began in Asia 2,000 years before Christ. Ancient Rome also used carrots to prepare various dishes. Carrots were also grown in Kievan Rus. And for some tribes, it was a constant attribute of various rituals. In particular, the Kryvychi put the deceased in a boat during burial, and a large carrot was always lying next to him. After the ceremony, the carrot and the deceased were burned. It was believed that if the carrots were burned with the dead person, they would not suffer from hunger in the afterlife.

In Europe, carrots began to gain widespread popularity in the fifteenth century. It was then that white, yellow, and red carrots appeared thanks to breeders. Before that, this vegetable was purple due to a special pigment. Later, orange carrots, so familiar to us, were bred in the Netherlands.
