The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (CSEM) reported a series of tremors in and around Greece, including a 2.4 magnitude tremor near the island of Crete and a 2.5 magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea.

Three smaller earthquakes struck southern Greece within a nine-minute span, between 8:21 and 8:30 am. Two of them occurred a few minutes earlier, recording magnitudes of 3.1 and 2.5 in the Peloponnese. The quake's initial magnitude of 5.7 was initially estimated at 5.9.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the center of the earthquake was located under the seabed near the Strophades Islands, about 75 miles southwest of the western city of Patras. The tremors were also felt in the Greek capital Athens and on the southern island of Crete.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

Experts say that the aftershocks caused a slight tremor, which probably led to broken windows and items falling off shelves somewhere.
