A pre-trial investigation into the abduction of a newborn girl in Kremenchuk, Poltava region, has been launched under two articles of the Criminal Code, the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office and the regional police reported, UNN reports.

According to the police, around 16:40 the day before, a woman reported to the police that her 4-day-old baby had disappeared from the postpartum room of the perinatal center.
The child, according to the prosecutor's office, disappeared from the postpartum room of the Kremenchuk Perinatal Center of the Second Level, a municipal non-commercial medical enterprise, on July 14 at about 16:10.
"A pre-trial investigation into the abduction of the newborn girl has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 146 and Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abduction of a minor and negligence that caused grave consequences)," the prosecutor's office said.
"Operational and investigative measures are currently underway to identify the person involved in the crime," the prosecutor's office said.
According to law enforcement officials, all police personnel of the Poltava region are focused on the search for the missing child.
"The pre-trial investigation will also provide a legal assessment of the actions of the perinatal center staff," the prosecutor's office said.
