According to the investigation, the so-called "overseer" of the Uman district and penal colony organized a "meeting" in February 2024 within the walls of the institution. The head of the prison helped him in this and assisted in every way.
The criminal gathering was also attended by criminals from the outside and prisoners aged 33 to 56. Among them was a "warden" of a penal colony who is currently serving his sentence there. All of them are accused of committing serious crimes. For example, robbery, preparation for premeditated murder, etc.
At the "meeting," the participants discussed the distribution of spheres of criminal influence and income, the filling and control of the "common fund," the unquestioning fulfillment of tasks set by the "wardens," the observance of thieves' traditions and the imposition of punishment for their violation.
Operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in Cherkasy region of the National Police, investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation and prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office detained the organizer and participants of the "meeting", as well as the head of the penal colony. Currently, eight suspects have been served suspicion notices under Part 1 of Art. 255-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (organization and participation in a criminal assembly, as well as assistance in its conduct). The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided.
The suspects may face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
