The US authorities have reacted to the proposal to shoot down Russian missiles from the territory of Poland in the skies of Ukraine. US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that America does not want escalation and does not want to give Putin arguments that NATO provoked the war. "Nobody wants an escalation of this war," Kirby said in response to a question about Ukraine's request to shoot down Russian missiles from Poland.

Kirby said the Polish government should establish and articulate its own self-defense procedures. However, he reiterated that the U.S. does not want escalation.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the security agreement with Poland includes a provision to develop a mechanism to shoot down Russian missiles and dronesfired towards Poland in Ukrainian airspace .
