Ukraine and India called for a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to reflect current realities. The countries also agreed to cooperate in the economy, defense, and education.

Ukraine and India have called for a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to reflect current global realities and become more effective and efficient in addressing issues of international peace and security. This is stated in a joint statement by Ukraine and India following the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine, UNN reports.

"Both sides called for a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to reflect current global realities and to become more representative, efficient and effective in addressing issues of international peace and security. Ukraine reaffirmed its support for India's permanent membership in the reformed and expanded UN Security Council," the joint statement reads.

In particular, the statement also says that:

-       The leaders emphasized the importance of simplifying the business environment for mutual economic activity and investment, along with removing any obstacles to expanding trade and commerce between Ukraine and India. The parties also encouraged more active interaction at the official and business levels to explore joint projects, cooperation, and joint ventures.

-       Emphasizing the importance of defense cooperation between India and Ukraine, the leaders agreed to continue working to promote stronger relations between the defense establishments of both countries, in particular through cooperation and partnership in the field of production in India and cooperation in new areas. The two sides agreed to hold the 2nd meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Indian Working Group on Military-Technical Cooperation, established under the 2012 Defense Cooperation Agreement, in India in the near future.

-       The parties agreed to explore the possibility of opening branches of higher education institutions to meet the educational needs of citizens of both countries.

-       The parties agreed to explore the possibility of involving Indian companies in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Ukraine in an acceptable manner.
