As noted, the tornado caused significant damage to property in one of Manchester's residential areas.
No injuries were reported, but many residents were forced to leave their homes in Stalibridge.
Services are clearing debris and removing fallen trees.The Tornado and Storm Research Organization said a detailed study of the area is needed before confirming that the damage was caused by a rare British tornado.
