The Philippines called on China to urgently stop its "provocative and dangerous actions" after a Philippine patrol plane encountered Chinese torches from the occupied Subi Reef in the South China Sea on August 22.
According to a statement from the Philippine authorities, the plane was also pursued by a Chinese fighter jet on August 19 while it was observing the Scarborough Shoal.
