At least 130 cases of accidents involving electric scooters have been found in the court register, according to the data of the monitoring service "Opendatabot," UNN reports.
Details
"At least 130 cases of accidents involving electric scooters have been considered in courts over the past 5 years, according to the search engine for the court register Babusya. 34% of them were considered in 2023," the report says.
111 administrative and 22 criminal cases due to accidents with electric scooters were found in the court register as of August 2024 .
The highest number of accidents involving scooters was reportedly recorded last year: 36 administrative and 10 criminal cases. "However, the number of such proceedings is only increasing year on year: more criminal cases have already been opened this year than in the entire year of 2021 . Since the beginning of this year, at least 16 administrative and 3 criminal cases involving scooter drivers have already been considered in courts," the statement said.
The most frequent types of accidents involving scooter drivers are pedestrian collisions or property damage. At the same time, the number of cases of drunken driving is increasing. For such trips, drivers can be fined from UAH 17 thousand and deprived of the right to drive for a year.
However, it is not always possible to fully prosecute scooter riders. For example, a drunken courier on an electric scooter received only a fine of UAH 17 thousand, because the offender did not have a driver's license, Opendatabot notes.
It is also noted that there are more cases of accidents with minors on rented scooters. The Bolt and Jet scooter rental companies insure all trips and state that the driver must be an adult. If a minor is involved in an accident, the consequences of these accidents are not covered by insurance at all, or the service reserves the right to make the final decision.
For violations, scooter drivers can be fined from UAH 340 to UAH 17,000 and deprived of their driver's license for a year.
