- said Salim Ibrahim, a lieutenant in the Nigerian army, at a ceremony in the country's capital, Niamey.

Addendum

After the July 26 coup d'état, the military in power quickly demanded the withdrawal of French soldiers - about 1,500 people - and at the same time denounced several military agreements concluded with Paris. In late August, the military regime also announced the expulsion of French Ambassador Sylvain Itte.

Recall

The family of ousted Nigerian President Mohammed Bazoum has not heard from him since his attempt to escape from military detention after the July 26 coup.

The military regime has reportedly detained and searched his relatives amidst volatile regional security and ongoing negotiations after ECOWAS rejected the junta's three-year transition plan.
