South Korea sticks to its position of providing Ukraine with only non-lethal aid, despite the Washington Post's claims that artillery shells were transferred.

South Korea's position on supporting Ukraine has not changed. Seoul provides Kyiv with only non-lethal aid. This was reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily with reference to the spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of South Korea, Jeong Ha-kyu, UNN reports.

Details

In particular, he refused to confirm the information of The Washington Post about the transfer of artillery shells to Ukraine.

When asked to confirm this information, Defense Ministry spokesman Jeong Ha-kyu told reporters at a press briefing on Tuesday: "Our government's position has not changed at all," asking reporters to "understand it accordingly."

Our military has provided humanitarian aid and military materials to defend Ukraine's freedom

- added the spokesman of the South Korean Ministry of Defense.

In response to a reporter's request to explain what "indirect" support means, Jeong only said that it was difficult for him to explain the meaning.

Addendum

The publication emphasizes that officially Korea says it is providing Kyiv with only non-lethal aid. At the same time, according to journalists, Seoul can help the United States replenish its ammunition stocks, and how Washington uses its own stocks will be outside the jurisdiction of the Korean government.

Context

A recent Washington Post article reported that South Korea has transferred more artillery shells to Ukraine this year than all European countries combined.

At the same time, South Korea officially transfers only lethal military aid to Ukraine. In particular, demining equipment and ambulances.

It is worth reminding

that the European Union is going to produce more than million munitions annually against the background of its commitments to Ukraine. Currently, the work on proposals for orders is being finalized.
