The South Korean government has decided to tighten export controls against Russia and Belarus. As part of the sanctions, Seoul has significantly expanded the list of goods with hundreds of items subject to restrictions. This was reported by Yonhap, according to UNN.
Details
The Ministry of of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea added another 682 items related to heavy construction equipment, rechargeable batteries, aircraft components, machinery, and other items to the list of goods to the list of goods banned from shipment to Russia and Belarus.
The new resolution will increase the total number of items on the list from the current 798 to 1159, are expected to enter into force in early 2024, after completion of the proper administrative procedures and the government issues instructions for for exporters.
The Ministry said it would consider "exceptional cases" for exports to both countries on a case-by-case basis.
Addendum
This step was taken because of the high probability that these items will be used for military purposes, although they are not classified as strategic items under South Korea's export control scheme.
