In particular, as indicated, the head of the Russian occupation administration in Kharkiv region, Vitaliy Ganchev, claimed that gas stations in the region have allegedly turned into "warehouses and fuel distribution points for the Armed Forces of Ukraine," and therefore are "legitimate military targets." "With such statements, Russian propaganda tries to give military meaning to the mass destruction of civilian infrastructure objects, which are gas stations," emphasized at the CCD.
"In reality, it is obvious that the main goal of these shellings is solely terror against the civilian population and an attempt to artificially provoke a humanitarian crisis," stressed at the Center for Countering Disinformation.
The Center also indicates that Russia, with the aim of destabilizing the situation in frontline regions, is conducting a comprehensive information and psychological operation, which the enemy accompanies with systematic strikes on gas stations. Against the backdrop of attacks on gas stations, anonymous accounts controlled by Russian special services on social networks began to promote fakes about a "catastrophic fuel shortage" to artificially exaggerate the scale of the problem and demoralize the population.
