The Verkhovna Rada is preparing an appeal to the countries of the world not to recognize Vladimir Putin as the legitimate president of Russia. This was stated on Radio Liberty by the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, Oleksandr Merezhko, UNN reports.

The main point, the main idea of this appeal is to call on the countries of the world, parliaments, states not to recognize Putin as legitimate

- Merezhko said.

The MP said that such an appeal would reflect the common position of the Verkhovna Rada deputies.

"One of the initiators is the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. Well, and our committee. I took an active part in the development of this important document, including the opposition," said the committee chairman.

He noted that earlier a statement by PACE President Theodoros Rouxopoulos had been released in which he questioned the legitimacy of the elections in Russia.

"The Ukrainian delegation was one of the initiators of the call for non-recognition of Putin as legitimate in one of the PACE resolutions. This is the result of Ukrainian parliamentary diplomacy. And I would like to remind you that a presidential decree was passed, which clearly states that Putin cannot be considered a representative of Russia, and that he cannot be negotiated with. That is, this is already enshrined in the legal plane," Merezhko added.

Addendum

Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov saidthat Ukraine would not recognize the presidential election in Russia, as "there have been no elections in the country for a long time.
