Polish farmers will suspend their protest at the Medyka-Szegyni border crossing from Sunday, with a possible resumption on January 2-3, 2024, if their demands are not met.

Polish farmers will suspend their protest in front of the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint on the Polish-Ukrainian border starting Sunday, Roman Kondruv, leader of the organization that initiated the action, said at a press conference, UNN reports citing RMF24.

According to Kondruv, the protest will be suspended from 8 a.m. on Sunday until January 2 or 3, 2024. He said that if he receives a written statement from the prime minister that their demands will be met, the protest will probably not resume.

Polish Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Siekerski is reported to have assured that the demands will be met, but it will take time. He added that some of the requirements, in particular, are provided for in the state budget, which is currently being worked out.

Polish farmers began blocking the Medicare transition on November 23 this year. They are demanding, among other things: corn subsidies, additional money for loans for liquidity, and keeping the agricultural tax at the current level next year.

The press conference also reported that an agreement was signed with farmers who are rallying at the Dorohusk crossing in Medyka. The document contains such demands as suspension of sugar imports and immediate payment of direct subsidies.
