In Zakarpattia region, the police launched a special operation and stopped a large-scale channel for smuggling conscripts across the border. According to law enforcement, the criminal scheme was organized by two local residents who involved another person in their actions. They laid the route across the border in Berehove district.
According to the agreed plan, the offenders transported conscripts in minibuses to the border line, where they left the vehicles and continued the route on foot. Each client paid between 7 and 12 thousand dollars for such services. According to police, about 50 people used the services of the criminals.
During the operation, three people were detained: two organizers aged 33 and 49, as well as a 26-year-old driver who was detained while trying to transport 17 people across the border. The police conducted 16 searches of the detainees' residences and vehicles, during which they seized a significant amount of cash, cars, weapons, ammunition, tax-free cigarettes and other material evidence of criminal activity.
The offenders are charged with illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine, for which they face up to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property, as well as violations in the handling of weapons and ammunition.
