On Wednesday, July 17, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy is to consider a bill to introduce taxes on beverages with added sugar or flavoring substances. This was reported by UNN with reference to a statement by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
Details
The MP published part of the Committee's agenda, which states that on July 17, the Committee will consider draft laws No. 9032 and No. 0932-1.
Tomorrow, a bill to introduce a tax on water, including mineral and carbonated water, with sugar or other sweetening or flavoring substances, will be submitted to the committee
Addendum
According to the explanatory note to the draft law No. 9032-1, it was developed to reduce the negative impact of sugary drinks on the health of the Ukrainian population by reducing their economic availability (through the taxation mechanism), as well as increasing the capacity of the national health care system.
In particular, the document proposes to classify water, including mineral and carbonated water, with sugar or other sweetening or flavoring substances as excisable goods and to set a specific tax rate of EUR 0.1 per 1 liter of beverage. The taxpayers will be producers and importers of beverages.
The draft law No. 9032envisages similar changes. In the explanatory note, the authors propose to amend the Tax Code of Ukraine, namely to introduce an excise tax on water, including mineral and carbonated water, with the addition of sugar or other sweetening or flavoring substances.
It is expected that this may lead to additional budget revenues through the introduction of the tax envisaged by the draft law.
