Kiper announces completion of vegetable harvest in Odesa region: the region is 100% supplied

Farmers in Odesa region have successfully harvested 528.6 thousand tons of vegetables, fully providing the region with borscht set despite the difficult weather conditions.

Farmers in Odesa region have completed the harvest and provided the region with 100% of the borscht set. This was reported by the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper, on his page on tg-channel, UNN reports.

He clarified that despite the unfavorable weather conditions this year, farmers harvested 528.6 thousand tons of vegetables from 38.9 thousand hectares.

At the same time, most of them were harvested:

- potatoes - 273.5 thousand tons,

- cabbage - 14.8 thousand tons,

- cucumbers - 18.9 thousand tons,

- tomatoes 99.8 thousand tons,

- onions 48.1 thousand tons,

- carrots 7.3 thousand tons,

- beets 9.1 thousand tons,

- gourds 22 thousand tons.

In addition, according to Kiper, farmers in Odesa region have expanded the area under onions, carrots, and tomatoes this year. The area under gourds has also increased, including watermelons - by 415%, melons - by 297%.

The head of the Regional State Administration added that the autumn sowing campaign is currently underway in the region. In total, farmers plan to sow for the 2024 harvest: 455 thousand hectares of winter wheat, 180 thousand hectares of winter barley, 50 thousand hectares of winter rapeseed.

In addition, a grant program is currently in place to provide the agricultural sector with about UAH 572 million in additional financing during the 2023 season, using crop insurance as a tool to reduce credit risk.

"About 220 agricultural producers will be able to receive additional financing with an average loan amount of UAH 2.6 million to replenish working capital. This will help minimize risks through crop insurance. The program is implemented by the insurance company UNIVERSALNA and PrivatBank with the support of the USAID Financial Sector Reform Project," he said.
