At a a press conference on Monday, November 20, a reporter asked Kirby to respond to activists' accusations that the Biden administration has authorized genocide against the Palestinian people, pointing to the use of the the nickname "Joe Genocide" by protesters. In response to this, Kirby made it clear clear who, in his view, supported genocide in the war between Israel and Hamas, noting that Hamas in its actions and intentions openly desired genocide against Israel.

"What Hamas wants, make no mistake, is to wants, make no mistake, is genocide. They want to wipe Israel off the map. They have repeatedly spoken about this publicly - in fact, quite recently.
And they said, that they are not going to stop, that what happened on October 7 will happen again and again and again. And what happened on October 7? Murder. The killing of innocent people in their homes or at a music festival. These are genocidal intentions," Kirby emphasized. Kirby emphasized.
The official also noted that the First Amendment to the US Constitution allows people to express their opinions, and the Biden administration respects this. However, Kirby said, Israel is not trying to to destroy the Palestinian people or wipe Gaza off the map.
