According to open source data, this area is important for the preservation of coastal vegetation, desert steppes, and many bird species. After the occupation, the Russians set up an artillery range there and are practicing firing on the water.
The barbaric attitude towards nature is inherent in the Russians, who are also responsible for the Kakhovka Dam explosion. The Russian paradigm of thinking does not value life, neither human, nor animal, nor plant.
