The relevant initiative is planned to be considered on June 22 at a meeting of the German-French Parliamentary Assembly. The document provides for enhanced control over shadow fleet vessels, as well as their detention in case of violation of current legislation.
In addition, deputies propose to intensify diplomatic work with states under whose flags such vessels sail.
In Europe, they talk about a threat to security and sanctions
The shadow fleet poses not only a geopolitical but also a significant risk to security and the environment
According to foreign policy expert of the CDU/CSU faction Jürgen Hardt, the Russian shadow fleet poses a threat not only to Europe's sanctions policy but also to critical infrastructure.
Chairman of the EU Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, Anton Hofreiter, stated that the activities of such a fleet ensure the flow of funds to the budget of the Russian Federation to finance the war against Ukraine and at the same time create risks for the security of European countries.
