Today, August 23, Ukraine has been celebrating the National Flag Day since 2004, UNN reports .

In the XIII-XIV centuries, Ukrainian military units used quadrangular flags, dominated by blue and yellow colors.

For the first time in modern Ukraine, the blue and yellow flag was hoisted over a government building on June 25, 1848, when it was hung over the Lviv City Hall. On March 22, 1918, the Central Rada proclaimed the blue and yellow flag the national flag of the Ukrainian People's Republic.

After the defeat in the liberation struggle and Ukraine's incorporation into the ussr, the use of the blue and yellow flag was equated with a criminal offense.

The flag of the ursr was a red rectangle with a blue stripe at the bottom.

On March 14, 1990, the national flag was raised over the city council building in Stryi. This was the first precedent for the public raising of the Ukrainian national flag over an official Soviet institution.

On September 4, 1991, the blue and yellow flag was raised over the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. On January 28, 1992, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution on the State Flag, and the young Ukrainian state officially had one of its key symbols.

Today, many countries around the world also hold events to mark the International Day of Blind Dogs. It was on August 23, 2008, that the world's first eye implantation operation took place.

The purpose of today's event is to unite the owners of blind and partially blind dogs and to draw people's attention to the problems of dog vision.

Blindness in dogs can occur due to a variety of factors, including disease, old age, injury, or medical conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal degeneration.

On August 23, you can join the Day of Cheap Flights.

The event unofficially marks the end of the peak summer travel season. Demand for airline tickets is decreasing. And to prevent planes from flying empty, airlines resort to lowering ticket prices, thereby stimulating bookings.

Today you can also celebrate a gastronomic holiday - Oil Corn Day.

You can cook corn this day in any way you like, the only condition is that you must season it with butter.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyr Luppus, assistant to the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica.

After Dimitri was brutally murdered, Lupp took his bloody tunic and ring and through them received gifts of healing and miracles.

During his travels, Lupp preached faith in Jesus Christ, healed people, and cast out demons. On the orders of Emperor Maximian, he was captured, tortured for a long time and brutally, and then executed.

Mykola, Ivan, and Pavlo celebrate their name days on August 23.
