The most catastrophic consequences of the oil spill from Russian tankers in the Black Sea are expected in the coming days, and the pollution may reach the shores of Ukraine.
Natalia Gozak, director of the Greenpeace Ukraine office, said this during a telethon, UNN reports .
It is known that the oil slick has reached the shores of Russia and up to 160 km of the coast is already contaminated. We expect that after some time this pollution may reach the shores of Ukraine, but I have no such confirmation now, but it is expected. We know about the mass death of birds, and representatives of cetaceans have been found that died because of this fuel oil. The most catastrophic consequences will be observed in the coming days
According to her, this impact will affect birds and aquatic organisms. As fuel oil sinks to the bottom over time, valuable flora and rare algae will be partially lost.
