China has called on the Asia-Pacific region to be on high alert due to US plans to restore the airfield from which the atomic bombings of Japan were carried out. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

The Chinese army is paying close attention to the United States' moves and will firmly defend China's maritime rights, security and sovereignty in the region

- said Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian.

Earlier in December, a US Air Force general told Japan's Nikkei newspaper that the US military would make "significant progress" in the coming months in clearing the Tinian North airfield of jungle.

This is part of a plan to disperse aircraft throughout the Indo-Pacific region amid China's growing missile threat.

It is noted that this airfield was abandoned after World War II. It is located on the island of Tinian, part of the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory, about 200 kilometers north of Guam.
