On the island of Galindez, where the Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadsky is located, researchers counted about 1,800 penguin eggs. Now there are about 4 thousand birds there. This was announced by the National Antarctic Science Center, reports UNN.

Details

The first penguin eggs appeared in early November, so the chicks will start hatching by mid-December, as the incubation period lasts about 34-36 days.

About 900 nests already have eggs, mostly two at a time. They are hatched by a pair of parents in turn: while one goes to feed in the ocean, the other remains on the nest. Then they change

- the message says.

The National Antarctic Research Center notes that Ukrainian scientists observe Penguins and other birds in the context of climate change research. In particular, the migration of subantarctic Penguins over the past 20 years is one of the clear signs of warming in Antarctica.

recall

Earlier, UNN reported that on the island of Galindez, Penguins steal pebbles from other people's nests due to their shortage. Polar explorers filmed a penguin moving building material from someone else's nest until its owner appeared.
