The Koblenz police reported that people who were near the site of the explosion were injured. Four rescue helicopters and several ambulances were working at the scene. The paddock is currently closed to the public.
The criminal police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Despite the tragedy, the six-hour ADAC Ruhr Cup race scheduled for Saturday will go ahead as planned.
