The incident occurred at the German Nürburgring race track, where the explosion was caused by a compressed air cylinder.
The Koblenz police reported that people who were near the site of the explosion were injured. Four rescue helicopters and several ambulances were working at the scene. The paddock is currently closed to the public.
The criminal police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Despite the tragedy, the six-hour ADAC Ruhr Cup race scheduled for Saturday will go ahead as planned. The organizers have confirmed that the teams and drivers will continue to prepare for the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) race.
