Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Holovaty was elected to a responsible position in the system of working bodies of the Venice Commission. He was elected chairman of the subcommittee on the rule of law. This was reported by UNN with reference to the CCU.
Details
On December 16, 2023, at its 137th plenary meeting, in accordance with its rules, the Venice Commission renewed the leadership of its working bodies on a rotating basis for the next two-year period. The member of the Venice Commission from Ukraine, Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Sergiy Holovaty was elected Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Rule of Law. Prior to that, Serhiy Holovaty was a member of the Commission's Bureau
It is reported that for a rather long time of activity within the framework of the Venice Commission, Sergiy Holovaty held various senior positions in the system of the Commission's working bodies: in 1997-2001, he was Vice President and member of the Bureau; in 2019-2021, he was Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Rule of Law; in 2010-2013, he was a representative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in the Commission.
In 2016, Serhiy Holovaty was awarded a special medal "Pro Merito" ("For Merit") for his significant personal contribution to the work of the Venice Commission.
Addendum
On November 16, it was reported that the NACP drew up reports on administrative violations against the acting head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU), Serhiy Holovatyi, and the head of the CCU Secretariat, Viktor Beschastnyi.
On December 7, Serhiy Holovaty failed to appear in court to hear the case on an administrative offense. He is suspected of acting in conditions of a real conflict of interest. The case was postponed to December 21.
